biography

Anton Leopold, also called "Tonči" by his parents Paul and Maria, grew up as the eldest son with his brothers Viktor, Ladislaus, Franz and Josko and his sister Johanna on a large farm near Ólmod near Kőszeg in Hungary. Toni recognized his passion for poetry very early on. His rest was interrupted at the age of 16 when he was called up for military service in Wiener Neustadt , where air raids on Wiener Neustadt took place in 1944 . While Toni was taking part in the front in Wiener Neustadt, his parents experienced the end of the war when, on March 29, 1945 at around 11:00 am, the Red Army in the Klostermarienberg area - about 1 to 2 kilometers from the farm - entered Austrian territory for the first time (then German Reich territory). After the war, Toni married "Käthe", who lives in Graz, in the Mariatrost Basilica in 1959 . Both moved to Wien-Landstrasse where their children Gabi in 1960 and Michi in 1965.

Leopold worked from 1960 until his retirement in 1993 as an employee in the federal service in Vienna and worked as a Burgenland-Croatian writer and photographer since his youth. In addition to a handwritten collection of more than 2,000 poems and short stories, he created an extensive collection of photos, mainly from Burgenland. Leopold also published anthologies and school books. He is a member of the Austrian PEN Club and the Society of Croatian Writers (Društvo hrvatskih književnika - Zagreb).
