Weingraben ( Croatian : Bajngrob , Hungarian : Borosd ) is a municipality with 354 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020) in Burgenland in the Oberpullendorf district in Austria . The ethnic group of Burgenland Croats makes up 43% of the population. Parts of the municipality belong to the Landseer Berge nature reserve .

The community is located in Central Burgenland at the foothills of the Bucklige Welt . Weingraben is the only place in the parish.

history
Before the birth of Christ, the area was part of the Celtic Kingdom of Noricum and belonged to the surroundings of the Celtic hill settlement Burg on the Schwarzenbacher Burgberg .
Later under the Romans, today's vineyard was in the province of Pannonia .
Like all of Burgenland, the place belonged to Hungary (German-West Hungary) until 1920/21 . Since 1898 had due to the Magyarization of the government in Budapest of Hungarian name Borosd be used. After the end of the First World War, after tough negotiations, German-West Hungary was awarded to Austria in the Treaties of St. Germain and Trianon in 1919. The place has belonged to the newly founded federal state of Burgenland since 1921 (see also the history of Burgenland ).
According to Dehio Burgenland 1976 , the place was mentioned in documents in 1588 and was a Croatian repopulation. In 1976 the place was part of the municipality of Kaisersdorf .

mayor
Mayor is Peter Kohlmann (SPÖ). In the direct mayor election in 2012, Kohlmann was elected with 61.10% to succeed Franz Hoschopf (SPÖ), who no longer ran for reasons of age. His competitor was Bernadette Gsertz (ÖVP), who came up with 38.90%. In the election on October 1, 2017, Kohlmann was confirmed in his office with 72.73%, although there was no competitor because the ÖVP waived a candidate.
In the constituent meeting of the municipal council, Angelika Greiner (ÖVP-LW) was elected Vice Mayor.
Head of office is Hedwig Pfneiszl.
Personalities
The philosopher and author Volker Zotz lived and wrote in Weingraben in the early 1990s.
