Culture and sights
- Lockenhaus Castle : Lockenhaus is known for the medieval stronghold of Burg Lockenhaus, which can look back on a history steeped in history. In the 13th century it is said to have been a refuge for the Knights Templar , but this is not 100% verifiable. What is certain, however, is that Elisabeth Báthory also resided at the castle . Today the castle is a cultural center with a permanent exhibition ( Gustinus Ambrosi , Knights Templar and other subjects) and current exhibitions.
- Geschrittenstein Nature Park
- Lockenhaus Parish Church : The Roman Catholic parish church was built from 1656 to 1669 by the Italian builder Pietro Orsolini. The largest church organ in Burgenland has been located here since 2003.
- The former Augustinian hermit monastery next to the parish church was adapted as a summer palace for the Esterházy family in 1868 .
- The Kalvarienberganlage with 14 wayside chapels, the Kalvarienbergkirche and the Marienkapelle.
Regular events
- Lockenhaus Chamber Music Festival : The violinist Gidon Kremer founded the Lockenhaus International Chamber Music Festival in 1981 and directed it until 2011. The cellist Nicolas Altstaedt has been the festival's artistic director since 2012 . Classical concerts by top-class musicians from all over the world are held annually in July, which take place at the castle and in the local church.
- Lockenhaus Organ Festival : The Lockenhaus Organ Festival has been established under the direction of Wolfgang Horvath since 2003 .
