Wolfgang Horvath

Wolfgang Horvath (* 1966 in central Burgenland ) is an Austrian conductor , church musician , speaker and director of the ORGELockenhaus festival . He is the founder and artistic director of the choir and the Musica Sacra Lockenhaus concert series and the Lockenhaus Chamber Philharmonic .

Live and act

Horvath, who grew up in Lockenhaus and Vienna, studied organ at the Joseph Haydn Conservatory of the Province of Burgenland in Eisenstadt and at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna from the age of 14 . After graduating from high school , he continued studying Catholic church music and organ concerts with Peter Planyavsky and Erwin Ortner . From 1986 to 1992 Horvath was a member of the Arnold Schönberg Choir and the ORF Choir. Until 1999 he worked as the cathedral organist at St. Martin's Cathedral in Eisenstadt. From 1992 to 2011 Wolfgang Horvath worked as a church music consultant and from 1995 to 2011 as head of the music department of the Diocese of Eisenstadt for Catholic church music.

In the field of stage work, he has participated in productions by directors such as Peter Sellars and Ruth Berghaus at the Vienna State Opera , the Salzburg Festival and the Theater an der Wien .

Since 1988 Wolfgang Horvath has also worked as an actor in the German-speaking area . Dramolets , collages , scenic readings , often in the church as well as improvisation evenings with Edgar Unterkirchner, saxophone are part of Horvath's repertoire. Wolfgang Horvath is the bearer of the Decoration of Honor of the Province of Burgenland and, since 2011, the Decoration of Honor in Gold for services to the Republic of Austria . Horvath has been an honorary citizen of the market town of Lockenhaus since 2016.
