Eduard and Johannes Kutrowatz form an Austrian , internationally active piano duo . Both teach at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna .

Eduard and Johannes Kutrowatz graduated from the Bundesgymnasium and Bundesrealgymnasium Mattersburg . They first studied piano with Uwe Wolff at the Joseph Haydn Conservatory of the Province of Burgenland in Eisenstadt , then at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. In addition to piano, Johannes studied clarinet with Peter Schmidl and conducting with Karl Österreicher , Eduard percussion instruments with Richard Hochrainer and Walter Veigl. The impetus for dealing with the original literature for piano for 4 hands and for 2 pianos was given by their joint teacher Renate Kramer-Preishammer.

The two brothers received important impulses for their artistic work as a piano duo at master classes in Freiburg from Karl Ulrich Schnabel and in Lockenhaus from Franz Rupp , a piano partner of the violinist Fritz Kreisler .

Awards

In 1986 they won first prize in the piano duo category in Stresa, Italy. Numerous awards and honors followed, including the cultural promotion award of the Province of Burgenland, the music award of the Burgenland Foundation Theodor Kery , and the Great Decoration of Honor of the Province of Burgenland . Johannes Kutrowatz was also a prizewinner of the international Schubert competition in Graz and received a Bösendorfer scholarship.

CD productions

Organum Classics has released CD productions with works by Schubert , Brahms , Strauss , Liszt , Gershwin , Bernstein , Piazzolla , Takács and Sakamoto .

Festivals

From 2001 to 2015 Johannes and Eduard Kutrowatz were artistic directors at the international chamber music festival "Klangfruehling", which takes place every year at Burg Schlaining . Since 2007 Johannes Kutrowatz has been the artistic director of the Yamanakako Sound Summer Festival in Japan. Johannes and Eduard have been artistic directors of the international Liszt Festival Raiding in Burgenland since 2009 .
