Trenta ( Italian : Trenta , German: Trentathal ) is a village in the municipality of Bovec in northwestern Slovenia on the upper reaches of the Soča .

geography

Trenta is spread over several smaller settlements along the upper Soča Valley in the western part of the Triglav National Park . It is located immediately south of the Vršič pass ( 1611  m. I. J. ), which connects the village with Kranjska Gora ( Kronau ).

history

Tradition testifies to the first settlement of Trenta in the 14th century. In 1579 an iron smelter was built near today's church . Their demolition material was used in 1908 to build the church tower .

Until the end of the First World War, Trenta formed its own municipality that belonged to the judicial district of Flitsch . This in turn was part of the Tolmein district and the Prince Counties of Gorizia and Gradisca .

Attractions

Church of the Holy Madonna of Loreto

In the upper (northern part) of today's Trenta is the Church of the Holy Madonna of Loreto (built around 1690). In the church there is the gravestone of its builder Baron Heinrich Attems Heiligenkreuz, a marble relief depicting the Annunciation and a statue of the Madonna of Loreto . In 1945 the church was painted by the Slovenian artist Tone Kralj.

Wayside shrine in Trenta

Also in the upper part of Trenta, a wayside shrine commemorates the fatal accident of forest worker Anton Tožbar.

Suspension bridges over the Soča

In the area around Trenta are some steel cable - suspension bridges over the Soca, one of which serve most only the transition of pedestrians; some can also be crossed by lighter vehicles. The bridges are lined with oak planks and are an important main attraction in the Triglav National Park .
