The Wonnenstein Monastery , also called Mariä Rosengarten Monastery , is a Capuchin monastery , which is an inner-Rhodian exclave in the area of the municipality of Teufen ( Canton Appenzell Ausserrhoden ).
It was founded as a Beguine monastery in 1379 and adopted the Capuchin reform around 1590. After the Appenzell land division in 1597, Wonnenstein's territorial affiliation was controversial until a federal decree in 1870 stipulated that all areas within the monastery walls belong to Appenzell Innerrhoden. There it is assigned to the Schlatt-Haslen district . The monastery and the church were rebuilt in 1687. Another exclave in Innerrhoden in the canton of Appenzell Ausserrhoden is the Grimmenstein monastery .
