The mother tongue. The quarterly journal for the German language is the linguistic publication organ of the Society for German Language e. V.

The specialist journal presents the results of German linguistics not only for representatives of specialist linguistics, but also for members of other disciplines as well as for anyone interested in language issues. The focus is on word research, issues of language culture, theoretical principles and experiences in language maintenance, specialist languages, German in an international comparison , German didactics, language development, language and media.
