Luthern Bad is a place of pilgrimage in the canton of Lucerne at the foot of the Napf . The place belongs to the community of Luthern .
history
Luthern Bad has been a popular pilgrimage destination for Mary since 1581. Directly opposite the arrival point, Dreilindenplatz, is the pilgrimage church, which is looked after by a chaplain. Pilgrimage services and blessings of the sick take place here regularly.
The «Badbrünnli» is a characteristic of the Marian pilgrimage site. The source goes back to a dream of the gouty Jakob Minder. In 1581 the Mother of God appeared to him. She advised him to dig for water and wash in it not far from his house. He did that and was healed.
Pilgrimage Church of Maria Heilbronn
Today's pilgrimage church Maria-Heilbronn was built in 1949. The simple new building designed by Lucerne architect August Boyer replaced the dilapidated and too small predecessor church.
When entering the church anteroom, the first thing you see is the wall with a «Spanish Madonna» from the 18th century, surrounded by many votive tablets . With the votive tablets from different eras, people thanked the Virgin Mary for her intercession and help. In the vestibule, five glass paintings by Eduard Renggli show the history of the pilgrimage site.
A black Madonna hovers over the altar in the pilgrimage church , as it appeared to the farmer Jakob Minder in a dream. The rest of the furnishings of the church are entirely subordinate to the image of grace. Eduard Renggli created the glass paintings.
The Way of St. James crosses the Luthertal only a few kilometers from Luthern Bad.
Since 2007 there has been a non-profit association called “Förderverein Luthern Bad” that aims to upgrade the pilgrimage site.
