history
The place Eureka was created in 1858 along the railway line leading to the west. The Chamber of Commerce in Eureka states that the place was created because workers for the railway construction were looking for the best way for the further route and the location for the next railway workers' camp. When they came to the area around today's city, they realized that this must be the best place and they shouted "Eureka!", The Greek word for "We found it!" and so the camp arose at this point and from it the future city.
In 1890 the place had around 100 houses. Eight years later, the St. Louis Children's Industrial Farm was established , with the aim of giving St. Louis city children an insight into life in the country. Today's Wyman Center emerged from this.
