history

Around 1797 or 1798, John Ball, of Irish ancestry, came to the area and bought land there. Since Spanish land law was still to be applied at that time, it took a few years for the ownership structure to be decided in his favor. After Jefferson City had established itself in 1826 as the new administrative seat of the state of Missouri, a main thoroughfare to St. Louis was laid from there, which led directly past the land of John Ball. He then founded the city "Ballshow", which he renamed "Ballwin" shortly afterwards. According to traditional accounts, the name change was based on the rivalry with neighboring Manchester . John Ball believed over the competition city in terms of growth and reputation in the future to win (English. Win ), so he annexed the "win" his name. In fact, the city grew steadily and is now a popular residential area with over 30,000 residents.
