Kappel is a district of the city of Bad Buchau in the Biberach district in Upper Swabia .

geography

Kappel is located southwest of Bad Buchau, but has now grown into the city of Buchau.

history

A hoard find from the 1st century BC in the Vollocher Ried with 130 bronze and iron objects indicates the early settlement of the place on the old bank of the Federsee .

In 1391 Hildebrand von Brandenburg sold the majority of Kappel for 201 pounds of Heller to the Buchau women's monastery , which was headed by Abbess Anna von Russegg . Before that, Kappel belonged to the Lords of Winterstetten. In the 15th century Kappel became completely Buchau and remained so until 1806. In 1780 the settlement including the Ottobeurer Hof consisted of 66 buildings. After 1806, Kappel was incorporated into the Kingdom of Württemberg and was subordinate to the Oberamt Riedlingen .

On June 27, 1937, Kappel was struck by a strong earthquake that affected 200 roofs, and the gable of the church tower fell into the crossing of the church. On April 22, 1945 there was a battle near Kappel with scattered German units. The French units took the place under fire. Three civilians were killed and a farmhouse burned down.

On January 1, 1971, Kappel was incorporated into Bad Buchau. The municipality of Kappel decided - against the majority of Kappl's citizens who wanted the community to continue - to join Buchau.
