Kappel synagogue

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Kappel synagogue existed as a synagogue from 1802 to 1873 in Kappel , a suburb of Bad Buchau am Federsee in the Biberach district in Upper Swabia .

history

For the construction of the synagogue for the Jewish community of Kappel , a collection was carried out in 28 Jewish communities in 1801 . The work on the trade was awarded to the local master mason Bader and master carpenter Kleinheinz. It was a simple building with arched windows , which is said to have towered over the surrounding two-story Jewish houses on Riedlinger-, Kirchstraße and the Burren. The abbess Maria Maximiliana Esther von Stadion zu Tannhausen and Warthausen is said to have been present for the inauguration by Rabbi Maier Wolf in 1802 . The planning of a carillon , as in the Buchau synagogue , was not carried out.

The community lost many members due to the emigration of Jews to the cities of Ulm , Augsburg , Munich and Stuttgart . The last service in the synagogue took place in 1873. The Hanukkah candlesticks were in the Buchau synagogue until they were destroyed. On March 6, 1882 the synagogue was demolished.
