location

Ahe is located south-east of the district town of Bergheim. The district roads 19 and 34 meet in the village . On the eastern edge, the federal motorway 61 leads past the village.

history

The place name "Ahe" is very old and is derived from the Indo-European word Aha . It means something like "water" or "stream". The place was already settled by the Franks . The first documentary mention was made in 1182. In the document, a Wolbert assigned his lands to the Münstereifel monastery. A grain and oil mill was in operation in Ahe until 1669 . This is mentioned as early as 1368. Ahe received its own school in 1816. After Herbert Hillebrand built the residential park with around 800 residential units in 1968, Ahe experienced a great boom.

Reorganization

Ahe came to the city of Bergheim on January 1, 1975 through the Cologne Act . Before the place belonged to the office Elsdorf .

Attractions

House Wiedenau

Around 1200 the castle Haus Wiedenau was built south of the village . It is first mentioned in a document in 1384.

It is recorded on maps by Caspar Vopelius from 1555 and Gerhard Mercator from 1585. Only the last remnants of the wall have survived from the main castle. A moat is still hinted at. A residential house and buildings used for agriculture now stand on the foundations of the former outer bailey. The vaulted cellars below are no longer there. Today the area houses a horse boarding house.

Contrary to what is stated otherwise, remains of the system are still there.

church

Catholic Church of St. Michael

In 1838 the first church was built in Ahe . The predecessor was a chapel from around 1720. The chapel from 1838 was expanded 30 years later with a side aisle and a sacristy . Ahe did not become an independent parish until 1924. Five years later, a new three-aisled church was built. The Catholic parish of St. Michael belongs to the Archdiocese of Cologne .

Others

There are two kindergartens in the village, one private and one municipal, as well as the elementary school on Schwarzwasser . Many clubs offer themselves for varied leisure activities. A cultural focal point is the Haus Eller memorial yard, maintained by the publisher Christoph Dohr and which houses a piano museum. Events (concerts and guided tours) take place regularly in the historical ambience.
