Kenten is a district of Bergheim in the Rhein-Erft-Kreis , North Rhine-Westphalia . Local mayor is Heinz Junggeburth (as of 2016) .
location
Kenten is located in the Cologne Bay east of the district town of Bergheim. The buildings of Bergheim and Kenten merge. On the southern outskirts of the village there is highway 163, on the northeastern outskirts the federal highway 55 and on the southwestern outskirts the federal highway 61 . The small Erft and the Erft flood canal flow through the town to the west of the town. The Kentener Mühle is located on the Kleiner Erft and in the past was the center of the lower district of Kenten. The Bergheim train station and the Martinswerk are also located in the area of the Kenten district.
history
The place name Kenten is derived from the Celtic kent and / or the Roman cent , which means both hundred . More probable, however, is the derivation from the Latin word canetum = cane-reed, which would be logical due to the location on the Erft meadows, which are rich in reeds and swamps.
Kenten was first mentioned in a document in 1115. The “ Veste Kente”, which was often mentioned back then, no longer exists today. The moated castle may have stood on the way to the Kentener Mühle, because there is a street there called Am Burgberg .
Incorporation
The municipality of Kenten was incorporated into the city of Bergheim in 1938.
