The parish church of St. Martin is the Catholic parish church in Aulendorf in Baden-Württemberg , attached to Aulendorf Castle and one of the city's landmarks.

history

Already more than 1,000 years ago stood here a the St. Martin consecrated Romanesque church.

Since then, almost every generation has contributed to expanding or decorating this place of worship. In this way, valuable works from different epochs, from the late Gothic to the present, have been preserved.

For centuries, the rulership of the Counts of Königsegg-Aulendorf ensured rich and in some cases valuable furnishings. Church and castle are directly assembled; spiritual and worldly power merged here into one.

After the castle complex was renovated over ten years and filled with new life in 1997, the church was also renovated in 1999. The carefully restored ceilings with their early rococo mortar are striking.

The unusual character of the stucco work is due to the fact that the work was not done with soft plaster, as is usually the case, but with hard mortar. The Baroque, lively figure of Mary from 1651 and the choir arch crucifix were created by the Upper Swabian sculptor Georg Grassenter.

Furnishing

Three Kings Altar

The most valuable piece is the late Gothic three king altar in a side chapel. The choir altar painting comes from Carl Desom from Weingarten . Small, high-quality wooden sculptures are placed on the pillars: the church patron St. Martin, St. Francis and the standing St. Anna Selbdritt presumably come from master Martin Zürn from Waldsee, St. Katharina, the saints Sebastian and Rochus are attributed to Georg Grassenter.

Martin's picture

Martin von Tours , dressed in episcopal regalia with cope, miter and staff, blesses a poor man kneeling in front of him. The scene takes place at the gates of the city; two men accompany the bishop. Like all of Sauter's religious paintings, this one also appears extremely ancient. The painting style is reminiscent of the late baroque paintings by his grandfather and his uncle, neither of whom are innovative artists, but experienced church painters who knew how to deal with effects such as the setting of highlights.

Bells

The parish church of St. Martin has a comparatively heavy ringing with six bells : the largest bell is the Trinity bell from 1952, the second largest and oldest is the Christ bell , also called the bell from 1690 . Also from 1952 is the Martinus bell, from 1920 the storm bell, the Anna bell. The youngest bell is the Queen of Peace bell (Regina Pacis bell) and finally the death bell from 1765 as the smallest bell.

In February 2007 the Young NPD marched on the anniversary of the Dresden bombing in Aulendorf to hold a rally. As in Miltenberg , the pastor and several were parish councils ringing any bells at the rally, so there was nothing to understand. Only the police stopped the bell. The pastor and some of the others were then invited by Federal President Horst Köhler to the summer festival at Bellevue Palace .
