Burglehen is a nature reserve designated by the ordinance of April 14, 1989 (NSG number 4.187) in a wide section of the Neckar valley between Rottenburg am Neckar , Kiebingen , Hirschau and Tübingen in Baden-Württemberg , Germany . The nature reserve north of the Neckar lies at an altitude of 330 m above sea level. NN in Rottenburger won "Burglehen". On the opposite side south of the Neckar is the nature reserve Oberes Steinach .
location
The approximately 16.3 hectare Burglehen nature reserve is part of the Schönbuch and Glemswald nature reserve . The valley section of the Neckar with the protected gravel pit with sludge settling basin is located in the Tübingen step edge bay between the bottlenecks of the Rottenburg " Porta Suevica " and that of Derendingen . The ten kilometer long and up to three kilometer long valley plain with layers of clay and marl of the Gipskeuper is framed by the ridges of the Rammert and Spitzberg as well as the Gäuf areas. The gravel layers in the valley date from the Young Pleistocene and until the 18th century the course of the Neckar was still freely meandering without artificial regulation. Bends in the river, oxbow lakes and floodplains could alternate and the river was between 30 and 50% longer due to the winding course in this section.
Between 1779 and 1966, various measures were taken to regulate and straighten the course of the river, which together with the construction of barrages and power stations resulted in an extensive reduction in the natural river system. Since the dredging of gravel pits and quarry ponds, the open water areas and shore zones have increased again.
Gravel extraction and recultivation plans are discussed between the gravel company and the nature conservation authorities.
Flora Fauna
When Stretch Burglehen is through the juxtaposition of steep banks with gravel, sand and clay, Ruderal - and reed bed areas and islands, Schlick arose and gravel surfaces a complex habitat for birds, amphibians, reptiles and insects -. In 1983 a colony of sand martins with 125 pairs could be counted. A total of around 60 bird species breed in the nature reserve and a further 60 species find a suitable resting place between the southern Baden Rhine region, the Lake Constance region and the Danube region.
In addition to the sand martin, the kingfisher and the little ringed plover are among the notable species of around 120 birds . Among the amphibians, the pond frog and the rare green toad are highlighted.
Protection purpose
The protection purpose includes the preservation of the habitat for a variety of partially endangered species, as well as the conservation of the common with the neighboring nature reserve "Oberes Steinach" as a supraregional important resting and resting place for migratory birds. Resting, breeding and feeding areas for the avifauna are therefore particularly worthy of protection. This includes silt areas, shallow water zones and open water areas, steep banks, woodland, reed beds and ruderal zones.
