Protection purpose
The main protection purpose is the preservation of the culturally shaped valley landscape with its near-natural wetlands, trees and forests and the preservation of the diversity of the habitat of rare plants and animal species. In particular
- the preservation, care and development of the complex of fresh, moist and wet meadows in the valley and the sage and smooth oat meadows at the Dettinger valley exit, which due to their size are of particular importance as a habitat for endangered animal and plant species,
- the character of the oak, hornbeam and oak, linden and service tree forest, which is inextricably linked to the value of the valley. In particular, the historically and ecologically significant tree species composition and age structure and the fauna that live in and out of them should be protected,
- the free meandering of the unspoilt valley stream as a prerequisite for an ecologically valuable valley floodplain.
Flora and fauna
The extensive occurrence of the endangered globe flower is remarkable . The almost undisturbed meandering Katzenbach provides a habitat for the endangered species lamprey and stone crab . The Wet meadow harboring endangered butterfly species which dusky large blue and plebejus eumedon be highlighted.
