The FFH area Filder is a protected area (protected area identifier DE-7321-341) in the German state of Baden-Wuerttemberg registered in 2005 by the Stuttgart regional council in accordance with Directive 92/43 / EEC (Fauna-Flora-Habitat Directive) . With the ordinance of the regional council of Stuttgart on the definition of areas of community importance of October 30, 2018, the protected area was established.
location
The 697.0 hectare protected area belongs to the natural area 106 - Filder within the natural spatial main unit 10 - Swabian Keuper-Lias-Land . Its sub-areas, which are distributed over the Filder plateau and the Neckar Valley, extend over the boundaries of seven cities and municipalities in the Esslingen district and the state capital Stuttgart:
- Stuttgart - 376.38 ha = 55%
- Wernau (Neckar) - 111.52 ha = 16%
- Deizisau - 55.76 ha = 8%
- Denkendorf - 41.82 ha = 6%
- Köngen - 41.82 ha = 6%
- Ostfildern - 27.88 ha = 4%
- Unterensingen - 20.91 ha = 3%
- Esslingen am Neckar - 13.94 ha = 2%
Description, protection purpose
There are nine smaller sub-areas with beech forests on valley slopes, species-rich meadows and orchards in the metropolitan area of Stuttgart near Plieningen, graveled quarry ponds in the Neckaraue with softwood meadows and tall herbaceous meadows.

Contiguous protected areas
Several landscape protection areas are wholly or partially congruent with the FFH area. The bird sanctuary foreland of the central Swabian Alb (bird sanctuary) touches the FFH area at two points in the Neckar valley.
