Aemilie Juliane von Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt
Aemilie Juliane Countess of Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt , b. Countess of Barby and Mühlingen (born August 19, 1637 on the Heidecksburg in Rudolstadt , † December 3, 1706 in Rudolstadt) was a poet of sacred songs.
Life
Aemilie Juliane was the daughter of Count Albert Friedrich von Barby und Mühlingen and his wife Ursula, nee. from Oldenburg-Delmenhorst . During the Thirty Years' War the family lived with Count Ludwig Günther von Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt (1581–1646) on the Heidecksburg. Aemilie Juliane's father died in 1641 and her mother in 1642. Aemilie Juliane was then adopted by Count Ludwig Günther and raised with his children. Her court master in Rudolstadt was the hymn poet and later Chancellor Ahasverus Fritsch .
On July 7, 1665, she married her cousin, Count Albert Anton von Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt . Two children are born in 1667 and 1668, one dies just three days after birth.
Aemilie Juliane composed almost 600 sacred songs, the best known being “God brought me this far”. In the Evangelical Hymn book you can find the song: Who knows how close my end is to me , which Johann Sebastian Bach processed in three cantatas ( BWV 27 , BWV 84 and BWV 166 ). In a kind of investigative journalism, the polymath Johann Gottfried Gregorii had previously proven the previously controversial authorship of this eternity song by the well-known hymn writer in his musicological treatise God-pleasing Glance of Truth in 1719 .
But her songs were not only concerned with death, but with almost all situations in life: for “parents when they send their child to school” or “before the [inheritance] division”.
