Rick Holbrook

Patrick Joseph "Rick" Holbrook (born May 22, 1948 in Chicago , † December 23, 2007 there ) was an American weightlifter.

Career

Rick Holbrook grew up in Park Ridge , Illinois . He started lifting weights at the age of 15 after having previously engaged in various other sports. After initial success, he went to Chicago and joined the YMCA sports club "Duncan". His coach there was the former Hungarian world-class weightlifter Mihály Huszka , who had emigrated to the USA . He later started for the York Barbell Club. In 1968 he achieved a junior world record in jerking the middle heavyweight with 172.5 kg. In the course of his relatively short career, he resigned in 1973 in order to be able to devote himself fully to his studies, he became world champion and US champion.
