John Murphy (swimmer)
John Joseph Murphy (born July 19, 1953 in Chicago , Illinois , USA ) is a former American swimmer .
At the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich , he won gold with the US 4 × 100 m freestyle relay. Over 100 m back he won the bronze medal and over 100 m freestyle he was fourth. He therefore missed the opportunity to win an Olympic medal in two different 100 m individual disciplines.
At the 1975 World Swimming Championships , Murphy won the 100m back silver medal.
