Micki King

Micki King (born July 26, 1944 in Pontiac , Michigan ) is a former American water diver . She took part in two Olympic Games and won a gold medal once.

Career

Micki King was a captain in the US Air Force . She took part in the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico City . She was in third place in the competition on the three-meter board when she hit the board in a one and a half Auerbach somersault and broke her forearm. She jumped the competition to the end but fell back to fourth place. Four years later, King took part in the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich . There she contested a spectacular competition from the three-meter board. With the last three jumps she improved from third to first place and thus won the gold medal in front of Ulrika Knape and Marina Janicke . She received 56.25 points for the Auerbach salto with a screw and a half, the highest score in the competition. From the diving platform, she only achieved fifth place in Munich.

King won eight Amateur Athletic Union titles . She also won two AAU championships with the Ann Arbor water polo team . After the Olympic Games in Munich, Micki King retired from active sport and trained at the US Air Force Academy.
