Jennifer Chandler
Jennifer Kay Bellamy Chandler (born June 13, 1959 in Langdale , Chambers County , Alabama ) is a former American water diver . At the 1976 Olympic Games , she won jumping.
Chandler won the 1975 AAU indoor championship from the one-meter board. At the Pan American Games in Mexico City in 1975, she won in front of the Canadian Elizabeth Carruthers and her compatriot Cynthia McIngvale . In Montreal at the 1976 Olympic Games, none of the Canadians reached the final, three American women faced three jumpers from the GDR and two jumpers from the USSR. Jennifer Chandler took the lead with the first jump and at the end of the competition was 36 points ahead of Christa Koehler , Cynthia McIngvale received bronze. Two years later at the World Swimming Championships in Berlin in 1978 , Jennifer Chandler was able to win bronze again behind Irina Kalinina from the USSR and her compatriot Cynthia Potter .
At the age of 21, Chandler ended her athletic career after numerous injuries. While studying at the University of Alabama , she occasionally worked as a television commentator for jumping competitions. In 1985 she was inducted into the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame , where she now works.
