Christa Köhler won the 1972 GDR indoor championships in jumping.

Christa Köhler (born August 18, 1951 in Vilz , Bad Doberan district , after marriage to Kinast ) is a former German water diver who became the first world champion in artificial jumping for the GDR in 1973.

Christa Köhler was a specialist in jumping from the 3-meter board. In 1966 and 1968 she won the Spartakiade , in 1969 she won her first GDR championship title in the adult class. After a third place in 1970 and the runner-up in 1971, she again took third place behind Marina Janicke and Heidi Becker at the GDR championship in 1972 . At the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich, all three GDR jumpers reached the final of the top twelve, but Christa Köhler was ultimately not satisfied with eleventh place. At the first world championship in 1973 in Belgrade, she then won ahead of the Swedish jumper Ulrika Knape . Her jump with the highest points and a degree of difficulty of 2.9 was the one and a half forward somersault with a triple twist.

In 1974 Christa Köhler finished fifth at the European Championships. From 1975 to 1977 she won the GDR championship three times in a row. At the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal, the American Jennifer Chandler was clearly superior to all other jumpers, Christa Köhler won silver, almost forty points behind, and was almost three points ahead of Cynthia McIngvale , the second American. In 1977, at the end of her career, Christa Köhler won the European Championship ahead of Beate Rothe from Dresden . In 1974 and 1976 she was awarded the Patriotic Order of Merit in bronze.

Christa Köhler started for SC Empor Rostock and trained with Max Kinast, whom she married after her career. As Christa Kinast, she herself became a trainer at SC Empor Rostock, she is now a trainer at the Olympic base in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and at the Rostock Diving Club.
