NGC 403 is a lenticular galaxy of the Hubble type S0 / a in the constellation Pisces on the ecliptic . It is an estimated 234 million light years from the Milky Way and about 120,000 light years in diameter. Together with 21 other galaxies, it is a member of the NGC 452 group ( LGG 18 ).

In the same area of ​​the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 392 , NGC 397 , NGC 398 , NGC 399 .

The object was discovered on August 29, 1862 by the German-Danish astronomer Heinrich Ludwig d'Arrest .
