NGC 420 is a lenticular galaxy of the Hubble type S0 in the constellation Pisces on the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 231 million light years from the Milky Way and about 130,000 light years across. Together with 21 other galaxies, it is a member of the NGC 452 group ( LGG 18 ).
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 399 , NGC 403 , NGC 421 , IC 1652 .
The object was discovered on September 12, 1784 by the German-British astronomer Wilhelm Herschel at his English private observatory.
