NGC 431 is a lenticular galaxy of the Hubble type SB0 in the constellation Andromeda in the northern sky . It is estimated to be 263 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of around 105,000 ly.
In the same area of the sky are the galaxies NGC 443 , IC 1636 , IC 1638 , IC 1648 .
The object was discovered on November 22, 1827 by the British astronomer John Herschel .
