Ruuskanen jumps for Puijon Hiihtoseura and was in 2000 for the first time together with Veli-Matti Lindström , Akseli Lajunen and Kimmo Yliriesto in the team at the Junior World Championships in Štrbské Pleso, Slovakia . The team reached 3rd place. For the 2001/02 season in the Ski Jumping Continental Cup , he was then reappointed to the national team. After two successful seasons, he was on November 28, 2003 for the first time for a World Cup in Kuusamo . He finished the competition on the large hill in 32nd place. After Ruuskanen achieved various top 10 results in the Continental Cup in the 2003/04 season , he was again included in the senior national team. On January 23, 2004 he achieved his best result so far in a World Cup with 6th place on the large hill Hakuba . However, he was unable to repeat this success and so far has only successfully jumped in the Continental Cup, where he could achieve a few podium places in the 2004/05 season . After three World Cup competitions in 2007 without great success, he was called up to the national team again on February 14, 2009 and jumped to 28th place in ski flying in Oberstdorf .
In the following years Ruuskanen was mostly only used as a substitute in the World Cup. In January 2010, he started at the World Cup in Sapporo . This was due to the fact that the first team paused and the Continental Cup team started. At the Finnish championships on the large hill on March 27, 2011 in Kuopio , he was third behind Olli Muotka and Jarkko Määttä .
