Susan Gossick

Susan Gossick (born November 12, 1947 in Chicago , Illinois ) is a former American water diver . She took part in two Olympic Games and won a gold medal.

Career

Susan Gossick learned to dive in her high school in California. She took part in the 1964 Summer Olympics in Tokyo . There she reached fourth place from the three-meter board behind the German Ingrid Krämer and her two compatriots Jeanne Collier and Mary Willard . In 1967 Gossick won the gold medal from the three-meter board at the Pan American Games . A year later, Susan Gossick also won the springboard gold medal at the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico City, ahead of Tamara Pogoschewa from the Soviet Union and the American Keala O'Sullivan . The Olympic victory came as a surprise after Gossick was only able to qualify for the Olympic Games in third place in the trials. She also won three Amateur Athletic Union titles in her career .
