Marjorie Gestring
Marjorie Gestring (born November 18, 1922 in Los Angeles , † April 20, 1992 in Burlingame ) was an American diver . She once took part in the Olympic Games and won a gold medal there.
Career
Marjorie Gestring took part in the 1936 Summer Olympics in Berlin . She had qualified in the trials behind Katherine Rawls to take part in the competition from the three-meter board. In the Olympic competition, however, Gestring won the gold medal ahead of Rawls and the other American starter Dorothy Poynton . At 13 years and 268 days, she was the youngest Olympic champion to date. Between 1936 and 1940, she won eight Amateur Athletic Union titles . In 1948, at the age of 25, Gestring took part in the trials for the 1948 Summer Olympics in London . In fourth place, however, she missed qualifying by one place.
