Randy Williams
Randy Luvelle Williams (* 23. August 1953 in Fresno , California ) is a former American track and field athlete in long jump . With a height of 1.78 m, his competition weight was 69 kg.
Williams stood on the podium at two Olympic Games . In 1972 he won the gold medal in Munich with 8.24 m in front of Hans Baumgartner (Federal Republic) and his compatriot Arnie Robinson , followed in 1976 in Montreal silver with 8.11 m behind Arnie Robinson.
In qualifying for the 1972 Olympic final, Randy Williams jumped 8.34 m. This achievement was not only the best in the world of the year in 1972, but also remained the current junior world record until June 20, 2012. This junior world record lasted longer than the two legendary world records of Jesse Owens in 1935 and Bob Beamon in 1968 in the adult class.
