William Petersson

William Petersson, 1921

Reinhold William Eugen Petersson , later Björneman , (born October 6, 1895 in Sandby on Öland , † May 10, 1965 in Kalmar ) was a Swedish athlete . With a height of 1.84 m, his competition weight was 78 kg.

At the Olympic Games in Antwerp in 1920 , Petersson won the gold medal in the long jump with a width of 7.15 meters . He was the first and until 1964, when Welsh Lynn Davies won, the only long jump Olympic champion who was not from the USA.

Petersson won a second medal in Antwerp when he took third place with the Swedish 4 x 100 meter relay . Petersson later changed his last name to Björneman. William Björneman was an official of the International Athletics Federation (IAAF).
