Michael Stamm
Michael Eugene "Mike" Stamm (born August 6, 1952 in San Pedro , California ) is a retired American swimmer.
The backstroke Mike tribe won at the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich each silver over 100m and 200m backstroke and gold with the US 4 × 100-m medley relay . At the swimming world championships in 1973 in Belgrade , he also took second place over 100 m back and won gold in the individual relay relay.
At that time, Stamm was the second best back swimmer in the world behind the GDR swimmer Roland Matthes . Only once, in 1970, did Stamm break the Matthes world record for the 200 m back. However, Matthes won the world record back three weeks later.
Michael Stamm was training at Indiana University under coach James Counsilman .
