Norman's Conquests

Norman Conquests (originally: The Norman Conquests ) is a trilogy of plays written by Alan Ayckbourn in 1973 . There are only six people, namely Norman, his wife Ruth, their brother Reg and his wife Sarah, Ruth's sister Annie and Tom, Annie's neighbor. The pieces are at times very funny and at times quite pointed in their portrayal of the relationships between six more or less unhappy people.

Each of the three pieces shows the same six figures on the same weekend in a different room in a house. " Table manners " play in the dining room, " Sweet Home " in the living room and " Through the garden " in the garden. Each piece is self-contained and they can be viewed in any order. Some scenes overlap, and in some places the departure of an actor in one of the plays corresponds to an appearance in another. However, the pieces are not intended to be performed at the same time - although Ayckbourn did just that 25 years later.

The pieces premiered in Scarborough and then played for a season in London , with a cast of Tom Courtenay as Norman, Penelope Keith as Sarah, Felicity Kendal as Annie and Michael Gambon as Tom.
