British Comedy Award

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The British Comedy Awards were an annual awards ceremony in the UK between 1990 and 2014 , where awards are given to television programs and actors in the comedy field .

history

The award ceremony was broadcast live every December from 1990 to 2006 on the ITV channel. In 2007 the event was not broadcast due to investigations into irregularities. The show has been broadcast on Channel 4 since 2010 .

After Michael Parkinson hosted the first awards ceremony at the London Palladium in 1990 , the following shows were held at the London Studios and presented by Jonathan Ross . Because of a 2008 scandal involving Jonathan Ross and Russell Brand , Ross stated that he would not be presenting this year's awards ceremony. He was then replaced by moderator Angus Deayton, but presented the award again in the following years.

Controversy

Investigations into irregularities

In 2005 the fake comedy show received the People's Choice Award. The award was given live to Ant and Dec by Robbie Williams , although the Catherine Tate Show received the most votes and was to be declared the winner.

Telephone dialing scandal

As of July 26, 2007, British newspapers reported that the British Comedy Awards had been involved in a telephone election scandal. According to an article in the British newspaper The Sun , viewers called the phone number for the People's Choice Award even though their votes were no longer counted.
