Ronald William George Barker (born September 25, 1929 in Bedford , Bedfordshire , Great Britain - † October 3, 2005 in Adderbury , Oxfordshire ) was a British actor who v. a. became known for his comic role in the television series Porridge .

Career

Barker had the greatest of his many television hits with the prison sitcom Porridge , in which he played the inmate Fletcher. Together with Ronnie Corbett he formed the duo The Two Ronnies and both made the final formula (Ronnie Corbett: So it's good night from me… So good night from me… Ronnie Barker:… and it's good night from him. Good night! … And good Night of him ) to the cult. He wrote some of the skits himself, but not under his name, but under the synonym Gerald Wiley , as he wanted the skits to be loved for their quality and not for their star status. Barker also played the stuttering shopkeeper Arkwright in Open All Hours . At the height of his career, in 1987, at the age of 57, he suddenly resigned for many. In 2005 there was a brief comeback of The Two Ronnies under the name The Two Ronnies Sketchbook .

Barker was married to Joy Tubb (from 1959) and had three children: Charlotte Barker (born 1962, actress), Adam Barker (born 1966, actor) and Larry Barker.
