Only Fools and Horses is a sitcom produced by the BBC and broadcast between 1981 and 1991. With additional Christmas episodes (1991–1993, 1996, 2001–2003) there are 63 episodes. She was voted the most popular British sitcom of all time, ahead of Blackadder, in the BBC's 2004 poll . The episode Time On Our Hands (1996) holds the record for the highest viewing rate for any sitcom in the UK , with an audience of 24.3 million . She can therefore be called a street sweeper .

The series, authored by John Sullivan and starring David Jason , has received numerous awards including several BAFTA TV Awards , British Comedy Awards and National Television Awards .

Only Fools and Horses DVDs and videos remain among the BBC's best-selling items, with over 6 million VHS tapes and 1 million DVDs.

The title is a reference to the English proverb Only fools and horses work (only fools and horses work [for a living]).

Welsh comedian Paul Whitehouse wrote a musical adaptation of Only Fools and Horses with the son of Jim Sullivan, who died in 2011, and which premiered on February 9, 2019 at the Theater Royal Haymarket in London . Whitehouse himself plays the role of grandfather in it.

The series is set in Peckham , South London; the main characters are Derek "Del Boy" Trotter ( David Jason ), a typical Cockney market trader, his younger brother Rodney (Nicholas Lyndhurst) and her old grandfather "Grandad" (Lennard Pearce). The plot often revolves around the Trotters' futile attempts to get rich as quickly as possible with all sorts of crooked deals. They run their business from a three-wheeled Reliant Regal Supervan III.

International versions

Only Fools and Horses has been sold to Australia, Belgium, Bosnia, Greece, Ireland, Israel, Croatia, Macedonia, Malta, Montenegro, New Zealand, Pakistan, Serbia, Slovenia, South Africa, Spain and Cyprus, among others. Three countries have produced their own versions, first in the Netherlands, under the title Wat schuift't? (What is it worth?). The second country was Portugal with O Fura-Vidas , and finally Slovenia; there the series was called Brat bratu .
