Pauline Perpetua Quirke (born July 18, 1959 in Hackney , London ) is a British actress.

Life

Pauline Quirke began her career as a child actress when she was eight years old when she appeared in an episode of the television series Dixon of Dock Green . Since then she has appeared as an actress in numerous films and television series .

In the 1970s as a teenager, she got three children's shows of her own called You Must Be Joking (1975), Pauline Quirke's (1976) and Pauline's People (1978-79). A year later she was in the film The Elephant Man by David Lynch a small role in 1988 she was in the award-winning film Distant Voices - Still life seen in a supporting role. Her career got a momentum as they 1989 in BBC - sitcom Birds of a Feather took the lead role of Sharon. She played this role until 1998 in a total of nine seasons (over 100 episodes) to the end.

In 1996 she continued to star in BBC productions such as a film adaptation of the crime thriller The Sculptress by author Minette Walters . After the end of her series Birds of a Feather , she played in the series Maisie Raine (1998-1999) and Down To Earth (2000-2003) also in the lead roles. In 2001 she returned to the sitcom realm and starred in Office Gossip . With over 6 million viewers at the start of the series, the sitcom was a great success. Quirke received an award for her portrayal in the series .

In 2002 she starred in six episodes in the BBC One drama series Being April . In 2004 a film adaptation of the novel Do you hear, it's very close followed and in 2005 the crime series The Bill , where she portrayed a woman suspected of being a child murderer. In 2008, she played the bank robber Joan in an episode of My Family .

From 2009 to 2010 she played the lead role of Mary Jane "MJ" Croft again in the BBC drama series Missing . In the same year it was announced that she would join the team for the soap opera Emmerdale as a star. In 2013 she starred in the British crime series Broadchurch . Since 2014 she has played the role of Sharon in a new edition of Birds of a Feather .

Private

Quirke is married to the film producer Steve Sheen, with whom she has two children. The family lives in Penn, Buckinghamshire . In 2009 Quirke was diagnosed with osteoarthritis , which is why she had an operation to replace her damaged bones.
