Peter Kay (born July 2, 1973 in Bolton ) is a British comedian .

Kay has appeared in various British television series and feature films since 1999. In 2002 he won the British Comedy Award for Writer of the Year and was nominated for Best Actor for his role in the series Phoenix Nights .

The following year he received two BAFTA award nominations for this series .

For the charity campaign Comic Relief , he and Tony Christie recorded his hit Is This the Way to Amarillo? new on. On March 26, 2005, this single reached number 1 in the UK singles charts.

He achieved this feat again in 2007 when he and the actor Matt Lucas wrote the Proclaimers song I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles) . In their series roles as Brian Potter (Peter Kay in Phoenix Nights ) and Andy Pipkin (Matt Lucas in Little Britain ), they re-recorded the song together with the two Scots and thus also conquered number 1 in the UK charts. Although the single was only unofficially in favor of Comic Relief, it was more successful than the official song of the Sugababes and Girls Aloud .

In 2008 he produced a two hour sitcom parody of the various television casting shows entitled "Peter Kay's Britain's Got the Pop Factor ... and Possibly a New Celebrity Jesus Christ Soapstar Superstar Strictly on Ice". He himself played the role of candidate Geraldine McQueen . Their "Winner's Song", written by Kay and Gary Barlow , was a number 2 hit on the UK charts. Another top 5 hit followed in the Christmas week with Once Upon a Christmas Song .

Another benefit single followed the following year. In November 2009, The Official BBC Children in Need Medley appeared in aid of the children's aid organization Children in Need . Under the name Peter Kay's Animated All Star Band , the dubbing voices of over 100 doll and comic characters were mixed together to create a medley of well-known pop songs from the Beatles to the Pussycat Dolls. The characters can also be seen in the accompanying video and on the single cover, which was designed just like that of Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band . The complex project was planned for two years and it took eight months to complete.
