Eric Sykes

Eric Sykes , CBE (born May 4, 1923 in Oldham , Lancashire - † July 4, 2012 in Esher , Surrey ), was a British actor and comedian .

Life

Sykes had been on the stage since the Second World War , but it was not until the BBC television that he developed into comedy greats both as an actor and as a writer in 1948. From 1958 to 1965 he designed his own television series, Sykes and a ... and Sykes , and was one of the well-known comedians of his time; he often worked with Peter Sellers , Spike Milligan , Tony Hancock and Hattie Jacques . In film, he was consistently seen in comic roles, especially in the 1960s. Then he returned to the stage and television. Tours have taken him to Rhodesia , Australia and Canada, among others .

In 2005 his autobiography was published. It's titled If I Don't Write it, Nobody Else Will .
