action

Eleven-year-old Will grew up in England in 1982 in the strictly religious community of the Raven brothers . When he has to leave the classroom at school because the teacher is showing a film, he meets the bully Lee; one day he shows him a black copy of the film Rambo , whereupon Will, from whom films and music have so far been almost withheld, takes a liking to filmmaking. The two begin to make a film in which Will plays the son of the movie character Rambo. They become friends during the production, but conflicts also arise, especially when a group of students around the exalted French exchange student Didier wants to take part. Lee, who would like to keep working with Will, is chased away by the entire group after an argument. Nevertheless, he saves Will, who had also turned against him, after an accident, but injures himself and has to go to the hospital. When Will visits him there, he doesn't want to know anything about him and shows himself hurt by the betrayal.

Will finishes the film with the help of Lee's older brother, who is his only caregiver but has hardly taken care of him. By adding a few scenes and recording a new sound track, a work is created that apologizes and turns to Lee in an apologetic and friendly manner and which Lee can see as a supporting film in a packed cinema after his discharge from the hospital.

Reviews

“Bill Milner as the shy linnet Will and Will Poulter as the rebellious daredevil Lee are a real stroke of luck for the film: The two actor debutants prove to be refreshing natural talents - you take them to your heart immediately, and they effortlessly carry the story alone. [...] A gorgeous, refreshing homage to the 80s - simply irresistible! "

“A film full of exuberant ideas that celebrates the child's imagination as well as the cinema, the fantasy machine. Carefully staged and equipped with great attention to detail, it offers enjoyable, subtle, disrespectful (family) entertainment. "
