The 80th Birthday Stadium , ( Thai : สนาม กีฬา เฉลิมพระเกียรติ 80 พรรษา 5 ธันวา 2550 , German: Stadium in honor of the 80th birthday of the king, December 5, 2007), also called Korat Stadium for short , is a multifunctional stadium in Nakhon Ratchasima , Thailand . The stadium was built for the 24th Southeast Asian Games , which took place from December 6, 2007 to December 15, 2007 in Thailand. The stadium is located in the December 5th Sports Complex and opened on July 2nd, 2007. The opening and closing ceremonies for the Southeast Asian Games were held in the stadium. Athletics and football competitions were also held here. The stadium has space for 20,000 spectators. Today the stadium is used as the home ground of Nakhon Ratchasima FC .
The name of the stadium and the sports complex are derived from the former King of Thailand Bhumibol Adulyadej , who celebrated his 80th birthday on December 5, 2007 .
