Stewart Lee

Stewart Lee (born April 5, 1968 in Wellington (Shropshire) ) is an English standup comedian , cabaret artist , satirist , novelist , director and music journalist .

Life

Lee, born in Wellington, Shropshire , was adopted as a child and grew up in Solihull . He studied English at the College St Edmund Hall of the University of Oxford , where he met his future comedy partner Richard Herring. He is married to stand-up comedian Bridget Christie; the two have two children.

He supports the British Humanist Association , is an honorary member of the National Secular Society and works for the charity organization The Arts Emergency Service .

Act

As a comedian, he packs his biting criticism into soft tones and small gestures; With his anti-populist attitude he has earned a loyal fan base and the respect of the critics. For example, in a 2009 Times article, Lee was named "the comedian's comedian, and for good reason" and named "Face of the Decade". He was part of the Cluub Zarathustra troupe , which was described in a book by Robert Wringham .

The satirical musical Jerry Springer: The Opera (see also: Jerry Springer ), on which he worked as a co-author and co-director, achieved international fame . Its stand-up programs are broadcast regularly on the BBC and Channel 4 .

At the 2011 British Comedy Awards , he won the title of "Best Male Television Comedian" and his television series Stewart Lee's Comedy Vehicle won the title of "Best Comedy Entertainment Program".

Lee writes music reviews for a number of publications including, since 1995, the Sunday Times .
