Jerry Springer
Gerald Norman "Jerry" Springer (born February 13, 1944 in Hampstead , London ) is an American politician and presenter .
Springer was the Democratic Mayor of Cincinnati . He is best known for his talk show The Jerry Springer Show , which pairs tabloid topics with frequent fights between guests, and is considered the inventor of the riot talk show .
Life
Gerald Norman Springer was born to Jewish refugees in Highgate Underground Station in London , England during World War II during a bombing raid. His mother Margot was a bank clerk and his father Richard Springer ran a shoe shop in Landsberg an der Warthe . In January 1949, his parents emigrated to the United States and settled in Kew Gardens, Queens ( New York City ). There he attended Forest Hills High School. Gerald Norman and his sister Evelyn lived with their parents in a small four-room apartment. His two grandmothers died in the Holocaust . His interest in politics was aroused when he was 12 when he was watching a television broadcast from the Democratic Party meeting and was impressed by John F. Kennedy .
Before Springer became a TV presenter, he worked as a professional politician . In 1970 he ran for a seat in the US House of Representatives ; when he failed there, he was elected to the Cincinnati City Council in 1971 . In 1974 he had to resign because of a prostitute scandal, but won his seat back as an independent candidate the following year. In 1977, at the age of 33, he successfully ran for the post of mayor of the city, which he held for a year. In 1982 he unsuccessfully applied for the office of governor of Ohio . He then worked extremely successfully as a political reporter and commentator for the Cincinnati NBC subsidiary WLWT-TV for over a decade . The talk show The Jerry Springer Show finally started on September 30, 1991, and was recorded in Chicago and ran on television until mid-2018. The show was considered a pop cultural archetype of the contemporary riot talk show and has been parodied many times. Topics that led to tangible actions by the guests were presented in Austin Powers , The Simpsons , Grave Whispers - Love Moves Coffins or Listen, Who's Hammering .
In the British musical Jerry Springer - The Opera by Stewart Lee and Richard Thomas, the Jerry Springer Show , which many considered absurd, is increased even further into the surreal with elements such as tap-dancing Ku Klux Klan members . The musical premiered in Edinburgh in 2002 and has since been shown at the Cambridge Theater in London's West End and also on British television.
Springer has hosted the reality court show Judge Jerry since September 2019 .

Springer starred in an episode of the US sitcom A Terribly Nice Family in which he played the role of a male feminist . He was also seen in the US sitcom Sabrina - Totally Verhext! in the episode Mrs. Kraft, in which he played himself, and in Roseanne , where the Connors appeared on Springer's show after winning the lottery in the third episode of last season.
Springer has also acted in several films, e.g. B. alongside Dolph Lundgren in The Defender in 2004.
He also appeared as a guest on the US comedy show MADtv and in the WWE wrestling league in 2010 and 2014.
