Simon Amstell (born November 29, 1979 in London ) is a British actor and comedian .

Life

Amstell grew up as the eldest son of a Jewish family with two siblings in London. After graduating from Beal High School in Redbridge , he began training as an actor. In 1993 he first appeared on British television on the TV show GamesMaster . From 2000 to 2006 he moderated together with Miquita Oliver Popworld on Channel 4 . From 2006 to 2008 he hosted the television program Never Mind the Buzzcocks for four seasons . Finally, on April 25, 2009, he announced through an email newsletter that he would be quitting to focus on his stand up shows. After performing at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe from August 2005 to 2007, he last did so in 2009 with his “Do Nothing” show, all of which were sold out. In autumn 2009 he went on his second national tour of the same title. After co-writing an episode of the Channel 4 teen drama Skins in 2007, the BBC 's six-part series Grandma's House was scheduled for 2010 , which he wrote and appeared in.

Amstell is gay. He lives in London, which he processed autobiographically in his film Benjamin .
