Benjamin Wallfisch

Benjamin Wallfisch (born August 7, 1979 in London , England ) is a British composer and conductor .

Life

Benjamin Wallfisch is the son of violinist Elizabeth Wallfisch and cellist Raphael Wallfisch . His grandmother is the cellist Anita Lasker-Wallfisch . He began learning to play the piano at the age of five and wrote his first compositions as a child. From 1993 to 1997 he attended the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and studied music at the University of Manchester . He studied conducting with Charles Mackerras , Vernon Handley and Bruno Weil . At the age of 22 he became assistant conductor with the English Chamber Orchestra and from 2002 to 2005 he held the same position with the Radio Filharmonisch Orkest .

With his music for the drama Dear Wendy , directed by Thomas Vinterberg , Wallfisch made his debut as a film composer in 2005 and was nominated for the best music for the Danish film award Robert . Since then, compositions for films such as The Escapist - Raus aus der Hölle , Fetih 1453 and Hours - Race against Time have followed , while at the same time he also works as a conductor for film compositions such as Temporary Gangster , Eat Pray Love , salmon fishing in Yemen and Brothers Grimm is working.

At the end of June 2017, Wallfisch became a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences .
