Bruno Weil

Bruno Weil (born November 24, 1949 in Hahnstätten ) is a German conductor .

Live and act

Bruno Weil is one of the last master students of Hans Swarowsky . By standing in for Herbert von Karajan at the Salzburg Festival , he became world famous overnight. Weil initially conducted in Wiesbaden and Braunschweig. He was general music director in Augsburg (1981–1989) and Duisburg. Since 2003 he has directed the Cappella Coloniensis , with which he made numerous first recordings for BMG . In 2001 he was appointed professor at the Munich University of Music and Theater .

Bruno Weil has conducted numerous internationally known orchestras, such as the Berlin and Vienna Philharmonic , the orchestra of the Deutsche Oper Berlin , the Canadian Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra , of which he is the first guest conductor, the Staatskapelle Dresden , the Budapest Festival Orchestra, the Vienna Symphony and the Philharmonic Orchestra Sydney, the Boston Symphony Orchestra , the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra , the Orchester symphonique de Montréal , the Toronto Symphony Orchestra , the Orchester National de France , the Orchester des Champs-Élysées, the Rotterdam Philharmonic, the Hamburg Philharmonic State Orchestra , the Bamberg Symphony , the Georgian Chamber Orchestra , the Orchester National du Capitole de Toulouse , the Orchester philharmonique de Monte-Carlo, the NHK Symphony Orchestra (Tokyo), the Sydney Symphony Orchestra and the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra.

At the Vienna State Opera , the Deutsche Oper Berlin , the Dresden Semperoper , the Cologne Opera, at the Teatro Comunale di Bologna , at the Hamburg State Opera and at the Salzburg Festival (debut with Don Giovanni as a substitute for Herbert von Karajan) he directed numerous performances. In 1992 he made his debut at the Glyndebourne Festival with Così fan tutte . At the Vienna State Opera he conducted several hundred repertoire performances, primarily the operas of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart . In addition, he directed numerous new productions at the Vienna Volksoper , such as the critically acclaimed premiere of Mozart's Figaro's wedding in the production by Marco Arturo Marelli in 1992, which was also broadcast live by numerous television stations and is still regularly broadcast today.

The focus of his repertoire is on Viennese classical music . He also promotes music in the sense of historical performance practice , for example through his annual Klang & Raum festival from 1993 to 2011 in the Irsee Monastery . He also directs the Bach Festival in Carmel-by-the-Sea . Weil is a guest conductor at international festivals.

Since 2008, Bruno Weil has been the “pacemaker” of the Tom Wahlig Foundation, which is committed to the research and healing of spastic spinal paralysis .

Many of Weil's CD recordings have been recognized by music critics: Cannes Classical Award 1996, The Absolute Sound : Record of the Year, CD Review: CD of the month, Deutscher Schallplattenpreis Klassik, Echo -Klassik-Award 1996, 1997 and 1999, Choc de l'année du Monde de la Musique, Fono Forum: Star of the month.

In 2016 Weil received the music prize of the city of Duisburg .
