The Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra is a Canadian historical performance practice ensemble .

history

It was founded in 1979, has its headquarters in Toronto and consists of 18 permanent members, who are supplemented by other musicians on a case-by-case basis. All orchestra members are specialists in historical performance practice. Under the direction of Jeanne Lamon , Tafelmusik has gained international recognition through his frequent concert tours and recordings since 1981.

Table music tours Canada, the USA, Europe and Asia for an average of ten weeks a year. The orchestra plays regularly in the most important concert halls in Europe. a. in the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, in the Wiener Musikverein and in the Barbican Center in London. From 1993 to 2011 Tafelmusik traveled annually to the Klang & Raum festival in the Swabian monastery of Irsee , where it was heard as a festival orchestra under the direction of Bruno Weil .

Italian violinist Elisa Citterio has been the ensemble's musical director since the 2017 season .
