Raphael Wallfisch (born June 15, 1953 in London ) is a British cellist .

Raphael Wallfisch was born into a family of musicians. His mother was a cellist and his father a pianist. The mother, Anita Lasker-Wallfisch , is one of the last known survivors of the Auschwitz Girls' Orchestra . His younger sister is the psychotherapist Maya Lasker-Wallfisch . He lives in London with his wife, violinist Elizabeth Wallfisch . His eldest son is the film composer Benjamin Wallfisch , his second son Simon Wallfisch is also a cellist and singer, his daughter Joanna is a singer-songwriter.

It was clear early in Wallfisch's life that he would dedicate it to the cello . From the beginning he had lessons from teachers such as B. Amaryllis Fleming , Amadeo Baldovino, and Derek Simpson . Today Wallfisch is active for classes and concerts all over the world. So he teaches z. B. at the Music Department of the Zurich University of the Arts and at the Mainz University of Music . Raphael Wallfisch is the winner of the international cello competition "Gaspar Cassadó" in Florence. He has also made some CD recordings with the works of Britten, Tchaikovsky and Shostakovich.
